Summer on the Action Mountain - lots of activities
We have the pleasure to offer you two singletracks for different levels of technical skills and fitness: “Himmelfahrt” and “Höllenritt” on Action Mountain Penken. A perfect extension to the numerous existing cross country trails in Mayrhofen. With their lifts and cable cars, the Mayrhofner Bergbahnen transport bikers and bikes comfortably up on the mountains 2,000 meters above sea level.

Insiders already know about the singletrack paradise Penken. In summer 2009, the Mayrhofner Bergbahnen created a new easy route – the 'Himmelfahrt' trail. Some more challenging North Shore obstacles allow every rider to individually choose his route according to his abilities. All obstacles are made of natural materials like wood, earth and stone. There are lots of jumps, banked curves and wave lines – everything a freerider needs. Of course, all obstacles can be left out by taking the "chickenway". At the end of the trail you can either pedal on bike routes through the Horbergtal back up to the start of the trail at the Penkenbahn or take the 'Höllenritt' trail which leads down to the valley. This route is designed for advanced downhill bikers.
To get to the singletracks on Penken Mountain, the Mayrhofner Bergbahnen offer their support. The Penkenbahn, for example, can transport up to four bikes per gondola. "Lift and Bike" – with this combination and a day ticket for 22 euros you get countless adrenalin rushes.

Test station for bike beginners
Visitors who do not feel like just trying the mountain bike trails on the Penken have now the possibility to get a taste of adventure and watch the pros racing downhill. Hiking and biking trails are strictly separated; however, in Mayrhofen you have the unique opportunity to watch the bikers in action. Furthermore, there are numerous interactive stations on the Action Mountain which simulate freeride biking in terms of fitness and coordination skills. At a checkout station you can get an idea of how challenging mountain biking really is.
And if you want to try the real thing, you can book a beginners tour, for example in the center of Mayrhofen at the popular Bike-Station Max Hürzeler and discover the region around Mayrhofen and nice trails with professional guides.

Why compromise – hiking on Penken Mountain
Today, trails for bikers and hikers are more and more separated. On the Penken we still haven’t forgotten about the hikers. On the contrary, one of the best ways to enjoy the unique views and the untouched mountain meadows is by exploring – by foot on one of the many mountaintop trails. Choose between ten routes of different difficulty levels from easy to hard - for a leisurely walk or a more challenging tour to mountain huts lasting several days.

Many roads lead you to roam – rock climbing at Penken Mountain
You prefer life on the vertical rather than hurtling down the mountain? You prefer getting about on all fours rather than meandering through meadows on foot? If you do, then Action Mountain offers two 'rock climbing parks with more than 60 climbs to try out your skills. The climbs at Gschöss and Knorren will test mind and body, especially arms and legs.
Gschöss offers 21 routes for ambitious climbers, ranging from difficulty grade 4 to grade 8. Knorren offers the same variety, from beginners to advanced. Since last year, visitors to Mayrhofen can also enjoy care-free and safe climbing on the 'via ferrata for everybody', before moving on to more challenging climbs. Moreover, there are four local climbing schools with plenty of instruction on grappling your way up the mountain.

High above the summits – paragliding deluxe
Take to the skies and look at the world from an aerial perspective – paragliding is more than an injection of adrenalin. It's pure freedom. Levitation at the highest elevation. And what better place to enjoy it than Penken Mountain, bookmarked even by professionals for its outstanding thermals. There are two launch sites: the summit station at the top of the Penken chairlift or the launching ramp near the summit station on Knorren. And if the weather is not quite up to flying, we'll save you the effort of walking down again: pilots and their equipment get the gondola trip down for free.
Paragliding is sport at one with nature. It's exhilarating and relaxing all at the same time. It's full of action, yet pure indulgence. Just like Mayrhofen with its two different mountains: Penken and Ahorn.
